Matthew Hooper practices in common law, principally in personal injury, professional negligence, insurance indemnity disputes and class actions. He specialises in appeals and complex cases, especially those concerning interaction with statute and construction of insurance contracts.
Matthew predominantly appears in the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal. He has appeared several times in the High Court of Australia. His recent cases include:
Before being called to the bar Matthew was Associate to Justice Gummow of the High Court and a solicitor at Lander & Rogers. Matthew read with Daniel J Crennan QC and his senior mentor was Dr Stephen Donaghue QC, Solicitor-General of the Commonwealth.
