Experience

Over more than 20 years at the Victorian Bar, Lisa Hannon has developed a broad commercial and civil advocacy practice. She is also a Nationally Accredited Mediator and Victorian Bar Advanced Mediator, recognised in Doyles' Guide as a leading mediator in Victoria.

Lisa is the Chair of the Victorian Bar Ethics Committee, and a member of the Victorian Legal Admissions Committee and the Legal Costs Committee. In 2021-2022, she served as Vice President Convenor of the Commercial Bar Association of Victoria.

Lisa has a trial and appellate practice in commercial, public law and common law matters, but particularly in two specialised practice areas.

Property law, land valuation disputes, compulsory acquisition and planning compensation

Lisa has significant experience at trial and appellate level in disputes involving the valuation of land and other property rights. She is also recognised in Doyles' Guide as a leading Victorian planning and environment silk.

Lisa is regularly briefed in matters concerning the compulsory acquisition of interests in land, together with claims for compensation for under the Planning and Environment Act and Major Transport Projects Facilitation Act.

She also appears and advises in ratings and land tax disputes and appeals, rent determination disputes in commercial leases, and on issues concerning easements and restrictive covenants.

Professional negligence and regulation

Lisa has a substantial professional liability practice, advising and appearing in signficant professional negligence matters, and also in matters of regulation and discipline, particularly in appeals and applications for judicial review.

She is regularly briefed by professional liability insurers, professional regulators and individual lawyers and law practices, accountants, and medical and allied health professionals. Lisa also appears as Tribunal Counsel at the AFL Tribunal and Appeal Board.
