Kalia has a broad practice that includes commercial law, public law and criminal law.

Kalia was an Associate to Justice Gleeson of the High Court of Australia and Justice Elliott of the Supreme Court of Victoria before coming to the Bar. Previously, Kalia was a solicitor in commercial litigation at Allens.

Kalia holds a Bachelor of Civil Law from the University of Oxford, for which she was awarded a full scholarship. She graduated second in her cohort from the Juris Doctor at the University of Melbourne.

Recent matters in which Kalia has been briefed to appear or advise include:

  • Taxi Apps Pty Ltd v Uber Technologies Incorporated S ECI 2020 01585 (led by Tony Bannon SC, with Robert Yezerski and Colette Mintz);
  • Dong v OHAPIF Ltd as trustee for the Oliver Hume Australia Property Income Fund S ECI 2023 01208 (led by Paul Anastassiou KC);
  • Okoh v Minister for Immigration [2023] FCAFC 53 (led by Matthew Albert, pro bono);
  • injunction application in the Supreme Court seeking a pseudonym order (led by Emrys Nekvapil SC);
  • advice to an ASX listed company on insider trading protocols (led by Philip Crutchfield KC);
  • advice to ASIC on interpretation of a statutory instrument (led by Philip Solomon KC);
  • various contested hearings in commercial matters in the Magistrates' Court of Victoria and the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, unled; and
  • summary crime in the Magistrate's Court of Victoria and the Children's Court of Victoria.
