Jeremy acts in commercial disputes involving contracts, construction & infrastructure projects, insurance, professional negligence, corporations, insolvency,
property, equity and statutory interpretation.
Examples of Jeremy's recent experience:
- General Commercial Disputes / Equity: acted for a purchaser of land seeking to enforce a "best endeavours" obligation, including obtaining an
interlocutory injunction and
a final order for specific performance in
the Supreme Court of Victoria, upheld on appeal (led by N Pane QC);
acted for a vendor in a sale of business dispute in the County Court of Victoria, upheld on appeal;
obtained an injunction on appeal to restrain a call on a bank guarantee (led by M Osborne QC);
- Construction: large-scale disputes on infrastructure projects involving arbitrations (both domestic and International Chamber of Commerce) and
litigation, as well as domestic building and security of payment;
- Insurance & Professional Negligence: regularly acts for insured defendants (such as architects and building surveyors) but also for plaintiffs
in subrogated recovery actions; acted for a yacht owner in a claim against an insurer for indemnity for non-economic loss; acted for an insurance
broker in respect of a claim after a fire.
Jeremy was ranked in Doyles Guide (peer reviewed) as a Construction & Infrastructure Barrister (Australia) in 2017 and
2018, and also ranked in the Victorian market
in 2015, 2016,
2017, 2018 and 2019.
Jeremy's contributions to the Commercial Bar Association of Victoria have been published, primarily in the area of recent cases in Equity (e.g. penalties
(2016 and 2018),
knowing receipt and fiduciary relationships).
Jeremy is a member of the Victorian Bar's Indigenous Justice Committee and RAP Working Group.
