John has an extensive commercial practice. He is ranked by Doyle’s Guide as leading Victorian Counsel in the areas of insurance and professional indemnity.
John has acted in multiple class actions and other major litigation following high-profile corporate collapses, including those of the Westpoint, Great Southern and Timbercorp Groups. He advises and acts in a wide range of commercial disputes. His practice areas include professional liability, insurance, contractual disputes, corporations law, equity and trusts, building and construction, property, torts, trade practices, insolvency, banking and finance, and disciplinary hearings.
Previously, John was a solicitor at Freehills and a special counsel at Norton Rose Australia. He is experienced in mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution, and is firmly committed to obtaining timely and cost-effective outcomes for clients.
John is a Senior Fellow of the University of Melbourne Law School, where he lectures in liability insurance law for the masters program. He was the author of Taxation of Partnerships (The Laws of Australia), and has published articles on many aspects of commercial law including directors’ duties, trade practices and professional liability.
