At the Bar, Ria has undertaken the following work:

  • Provided advice and opinions to national and international law firms (e.g. based in Switzerland, New York and Italy) on various issues, including:
    • Complex tax technical issues, in the areas of income tax, CGT, international tax (CFCs, transferor trusts), tax residency, taxation of trusts, corporate tax, stamp duty, transfer pricing, deceased estates, GST, payroll tax, wine equalisation tax, land tax, small business tax concessions and R&D tax concessions.
    • The likelihood of a case succeeding (including seeking special leave to appeal to the High Court), the conduct of a case and the associated evidentiary and strategic procedural issues.
  • Drafted and settled various court-related documents and contracts.

Ria has a Bachelor of Science (majors: Pharmacology and Biochemistry) (Distinction), a Bachelor of Laws from Monash University, and a Master of Laws (specialising in tax) (Hons) with First Class Honours in Tax Litigation and Current Issues in Tax Avoidance from Melbourne University.
