Areas of Practice
Ria has extensive tax experience having practised in the field for 13 years. As a solicitor at law firms (Clayton Utz and Arnold Bloch Leibler) and a senior taxation consultant at large accounting firms (Ernst & Young and Deloitte), she has advised a range of clients from large public companies to high-net-worth individuals to large family groups on various complex tax issues.
Specifically, Ria has advised on ‘front-end’ tax issues (e.g. income tax, CGT, international tax, tax structuring on corporate restructures and financing transactions and IPOs), and ‘back-end’ tax issues (e.g. ATO audits and disputes, offshore voluntary disclosures, negotiations and settlements with ATO, and the conduct of litigation).
At the Bar, Ria has undertaken the following work:
Ria has a Bachelor of Science (majors: Pharmacology and Biochemistry) (Distinction), a Bachelor of Laws from Monash University, and a Master of Laws (specialising in tax) (Hons) with First Class Honours in Tax Litigation and Current Issues in Tax Avoidance from Melbourne University.
She is a Chartered Tax Adviser of the Tax Institute of Australia, a Committee member of the Tax Bar Association, and a member of the International Fiscal Association.
Among 70 world-wide international tax advisers, Ria participates in the annual Future Leaders Forum.
