Before joining the Bar Tristan practised at Mallesons Stephen Jaques in its Dispute Resolution group and prior to that at Minter Ellison in its Construction, Dispute Resolution and Media, Communication & Technology groups.

As a solicitor, Tristan acted in a wide range of disputes including:

  • commercial, construction and defamation litigation in the Supreme Court of Victoria;
  • telecommunications arbitrations before the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission;
  • applications to the Federal Court of Australia for judicial review;
  • domestic building insurance disputes in the Victorian Civil & Administrative Tribunal;
  • and appeals to the Supreme Court of Victoria Court of Appeal and High Court of Australia.

Tristan has made numerous court appearances across a number of jurisdictions, including the Victorian Civil & Administrative Tribunal, the Magistrates' Court of Victoria, the Federal Magistrates Court of Australia, the Federal Court of Australia, the County Court of Victoria and the Supreme Court of Victoria.

Cases in which Tristan has appeared include:

  • Khan v Kimitsis trading as Quest Building (Domestic Building) [2009] VCAT 912
  • Sivritas v Sivritas & Anor [2008] VSC 374 and DPP v Williams [2004] VSC 360.

A research paper co-authored by Tristan, "Common Law Protection of Privacy", was published by the International Bar Association in 2004. He is currently preparing a series of papers regarding the use of decision analysis techniques in accurately evaluating settlement options and negotiating advantageous outcomes for clients.
