Tim practises in the State Supreme Courts and the Federal Court at trial and appellate level in Australian and international commercial law, in public law, and in major torts including defamation. He also appears before boards of inquiry, disciplinary tribunals, the Coroners Court and State Supreme Courts in disciplinary matters, investigations, and criminal proceedings, as well as in certain proceedings in the Family Court. 

He is the President of the Trans-Tasman IP Attorneys Disciplinary Tribunal, and since 2001 has held an annual appointment as visiting professor of law in the University of Virginia School of Law where he teaches a course on the conflict of laws.
