Simon came to the Bar in 1986 having been a solicitor at Mallesons.
Areas of Practice
He has practiced extensively in commercial litigation incorporating contract law, companies, major torts, equity, insolvency and bankruptcy, banking and finance, competition law, and general commercial litigation including family law (property).
His work includes appearances in major commercial and common law cases including liquidations (Pyramid; HIH), Royal Commissions (Tricontinental; Longford (counsel assisting) and most recently Commonwealth Child Abuse Royal Commission) and commissions of inquiry (e.g., counsel assisting the ACCC in the 2007 National Petrol Inquiry); competition cases (cartels litigation, mergers and Part IIIA access litigation) and major infrastructure litigation.
He regularly appears at trial and appellate level in the State (Supreme and County) and Federal courts.
He has a large advice practice in major commercial disputes including for significant public companies and for government.
He regularly mediates disputes in commercial matters.
He is currently Junior Vice-President of the Bar, an executive member of the Bar Council, Chair of the Education and Professional Development Executive, Chair of the Victorian Bar Readers’ Course Committee, a member of the Chief Justice’s Preliminary Evaluations Committee and a member of the Victorian Bar Indictable Crimes Certificate (ICC) Committee.
