Simon came to the Bar from King & Wood Mallesons (then Mallesons) in 1986.

Areas of Practice

He has practiced extensively in commercial litigation incorporating contract law, companies, major torts, equity, insolvency and bankruptcy, banking and finance, competition law (anticompetitive conduct, mergers, third party access to infrastructure, and consumer law), and general commercial litigation including family law (property).

His work as counsel has included appearances in major commercial and common law cases, 3 Royal Commissions (most recently in the Commonwealth Child Abuse Royal Commission (2014-2016)) and as counsel assisting the ACCC in the 2007 National Petrol Inquiry.

Court Work

He regularly appears at trial and appellate level in the State (Supreme and County courts) and in the Federal Court.


He has an advice practice in major commercial disputes including for significant public companies and for government.


He regularly mediates disputes in a wide range of commercial matters.


He is Junior Vice-President of the Bar, an executive member of the Bar Council, a member of the Counsel Committee, Chair of the Education and Professional Development Executive, Chair of the Victorian Bar Readers’ Course Committee and a member of the Indictable Crimes Certificate (ICC) Committee.
