Liam practices in general commercial, construction and insurance litigation.

Liam has repeatedly been recognised in the peer reviewed Doyles Guide as a recommended construction law barrister since 2016.

He has particular expertise in acting in substantial and complex construction and engineering disputes involving litigation or arbitration. Many of these disputes involve complex issues of delay, disruption, contract termination and professional negligence.

Liam is also experienced in acting in disputes involving the security of payment legislation, including applications for judicial review.

He also regularly represents clients involved in domestic building disputes in VCAT and in statutory appeals before the Building Appeals Board.

Prior to coming to the Bar, Liam worked as a solicitor in Norton Rose Australia’s construction and engineering group, having completed articles at that firm.

Liam is a member of Victorian Bar’s International Arbitration Committee, the Society of Construction Law Australia and the Building Dispute Practitioner Society.

  • Monde Construction & Refrigeration Pty Ltd v Intrax Consulting Engineers Pty Ltd (2019) (Supreme Court of Victoria, led by T Margetts QC): acted for an engineer in respect of a claims for breach of contract/ misleading or deceptive conduct concerning the design of a pavement at a transport logistic facility  
  • Sitzler Pty Ltd v GPT RRE Ltd (as Responsible Entity of General Property Trust) [2018] FCA 1496 (Expert Determination/ Federal Court Proceeding, current): acting for the head contractor in a proceeding concerning a series of complex extension of time, variation and defective work claims 
  • RC v WRWC (Arbitration proceeding) (current, unled): acting in domestic arbitration proceeding involving sewerage infrastructure works  
  • L.E v V (Arbitration proceeding) (current, unled): acting in a domestic arbitration involving a series of electrical subcontracts
